- LASCO
-
- It is convenient to measure distances in terms of solar radii. One solar radius is about 700,000 km, or 420,000 miles, or
- 16 arc minutes.
- A coronagraph is a telescope that is designed to block light coming directly from the solar disk, in order to see the
- extremely faint emission from the region around the sun, called the corona.
-
- CONNECTION WITH OTHER INSTRUMENTS
-
- The LASCO electronics box also provides services for EIT, since the two experiments are closely coupled.
-
- There is an important consequence from this: LASCO and EIT are supported by the same electronics command and
- data-handling package. From the operational point of view, this one electronics package, the LASCO Electronics Box
- (LEB), supports four coronal telescopes having similar technical characteristics, C1, C2, C3, and EIT. At the command
- and data level, these four instruments are synchronized in highly coordinated operations, with their uplinked commands
- and downlinked data interleaved into a single, common signal stream.
